World Music Day 2020
Music is celebrated every year on June 21. World Music Day started in 1982 in France as ‘Fete de la Musique’, a music festival. The man behind it was the then French Minister of Culture Jack Lang. It was so popular that is spread worldwide and people in every country celebrate music in their own unique way.
The day was started to promote music in two ways, first to encourage amateur and professional musicians to perform in the streets, and secondly so that many free concerts are organized, and all genres of music are made accessible to the public.
The day has made a huge impact as there are over 130 countries that celebrate it today with over 1,000 cities across the world taking part.
The best thing about World Music Day is that it is completely free to celebrate. No matter what kind of music you love you can take part for free and you can get the whole family involved. It is the perfect opportunity to try playing a brand-new instrument or listen to a type of music that you wouldn’t normally have on your playlist.
