Cloud Seeding is a way of artificially tweaking rain. This is also known by other terms such as enhancement of man-made climate, artificial weather alteration, rain-making and so on.
How it works?
The innovation showers particles of salts like silver iodide and chloride on mists utilizing an exceptional airplane, rockets or from scattering gadgets situated on the ground. These salt particles go about as a center (cloud buildup cores or ice-nucleating particles) which draw water fume inside the cloud towards them and the dampness hooks on, consolidating into water beads prompting the development of raindrops.
Cloud seeding is intended to modify the cloud ‘s natural production to improve precipitation, remove hail, dissipate fog or reduce lightning.
Who discovered Cloud seeding?
Vincent Schaefer, a self-taught chemist who invented cloud seeding and created the first snow and rainfall artificially induced, died in Schenectady, N.Y. He was 87 years old.
With his work for General Electric Co. in 1946, Mr. Schaefer drew worldwide attention to creating the first snowstorm in a laboratory and causing rainfall outdoors, solving many of the problems of rain and snow that had puzzled scientists.
Hopes were rising that cloud seeding could combat drought, suppress hurricanes, could hail, quench fires and ensure a white Christmas season. Despite the unrealized grander hopes, cloud seeding is still being done in some countries, and the techniques are also being used to clear clouds over some airports.
First Experiment on Cloud Seeding
The principal explores different avenues regarding cloud seeding were directed in 1946 by American scientist and meteorologist Vincent J. Schaefer, and from that point forward seeding has been performed from airplane, rockets, guns, and ground generators. Numerous substances have…
