1. Moonlight (2016)
You think heart-wrenching, you get Moonlight. What a movie, this one. Split into three distinct acts, with each one focusing on a different time period in the main character’s life. This is a movie of the main lead struggling to understand his own sexuality and it leaves you heartbroken. Director Barry Jenkins makes sure that all the three actors portraying the main character in the movie are in perfect tandem with each other. Just make sure to have plenty of tissues handy.
2. Parasite (2019)
Part dark comedy and part psychological thriller, Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite deliciously unravel how the poor, but resourceful, Kim family scam their way into gainful employment at the luxurious Park residence. Besides richly illustrating the plights of the have-nots, the Korean film is also fun. It isn’t all that conventionally scary save for a few gory moments; and yet, it’s pretty chilling. The winner of the 2020 Oscar best picture award is available on Amazon Prime.
