Montana is the fourth largest state in the United States and one of the nine Mountain States. It is located in the northwest corner of the country. Numerous rivers, different flora and wildlife, diverse terrains, and ever-changing weather conditions characterize it.

1. ‘Motaa’ is a Spanish word for mountain, and the state was called after it by the first Spanish inhabitants. It is one of the Western United States’ nine mountainous states, with 64 mountain ranges.

2. The state’s motto is ‘Oro Y Plata,’ which is a Spanish term that means gold and silver. The enormous reserves of the two precious metals in the state inspired this motto. Montana was the first place where gold was discovered in 1852.

3. A cowboy in Fort Benton once insisted on riding his horse to his Grand Union Hotel room. When the manager complained, the two began shooting at each other. The Horseman was killed, as were fourteen other people. His body contained 44 slugs.

4. Montana features a feature called a triple divide that is unique to the state. Water can flow into the Atlantic Ocean, Hudson Bay (when considered an Arctic tributary), and the Pacific Ocean across this triple barrier.

5. The Montana Sapphire is the lone American gem in the Crown Jewels of England. This truth is now the subject of some debate and controversy, but it has been confirmed by numerous sources!
